Vladimir Safatli na IFDT-u

31/03/2018

Autor je brojnih knjiga (Grand Hotel Abyss: Desire, Recognition and the Restoration of the Subject (Leuven University Press, 2016); Só mais um esforço (três estrelas, 2017), La Passion du négatif: Lacan et la dialectique (Georg Olms 2010); O circuito dos afetos: corpos políticos, desamparo e o fim do indivíduo (2016)), i stalni je kolumnista brazilskih dnevnih novina Folha de São Paulo.

Vladimir Safatle is Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Philosophy and the Institute of Psychology at the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. He has served as Visiting Professor at the Paris VII, Paris VIII, Université de Toulouse, and the Université Catholique de Louvain, as fellow at South African Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Studies, and visiting scholar at University of California – Berkeley. He is the member of the International Board of the International consortium of critical theory programs and, related to this, member of the editorial board of the Critical South, a book series of the International consortium published by Polity Press. This merited special mentioning because it was at the first conference of the Consortium in Bologna that some of us first met Vladimir, who was then responsible for organising the second conference in Sao Paolo on Ends of Democracy in November last year. Vladimir Safatle’s theoretical interests span from Hegelian and post-Hegelian dialectical traditions (with a special focus on the notion of recognition), to relationships between philosophy and psychoanalysis (he wrote and edited several books on Lacan and Freud, and is one of the coordinators of the International Society of Psychoanalysis and Philosophy); to the 20th century continental philosophy, mostly French and German with a special emphasis on the Frankfurt School (he is responsible for the translations of Adorno’s works in Portuguese); to the philosophy of music. However, in his prolific academic career – he has written or edited more than 15 books – Vladimir Safatle is especially focused on the political dimensions of both philosophy and psychoanalysis, and also writes about the Brazilian political situation, especially about the Brazilian left. As the columnist at the daily Folha de Sao Paolo, and at various other journals, he is truly the representative of an almost extinct species of engaged intellectuals. Today, within our Annual Seminar on Violence and Critique, he will talk about a possibility of a different kratos for the people. Thank you for being with us here, the floor is yours.
